Welch Comer opens Spokane Valley office

Coeur d’Alene-based Welch Comer has opened an office in Spokane Valley.

Founded in 1979, the engineering firm has grown from a two-person office to a team of more than 25 engineers, project managers, draftsmen, surveyors and support staff. The firm’s new Washington office, located in leased space at 5620 E. Desmet Ave., will serve Welch Comer’s clients in eastern Washington.

“We have developed and maintain a large client base in eastern Washington,” said Necia Maiani, vice president and manager of the Spokane Valley office. “This expansion demonstrates our commitment to our Washington communities and gives our clients easier access to our team.”

Welch Comer is currently working on several public-sector projects in Washington, including improvements to Downtown Pullman, the Millwood-Argonne widening in Spokane Valley, the Spokane County Water District #3 Comprehensive Water System Plan and the Sunvale Water Distribution Improvements for the Pend Oreille Public Utility District.

Recently completed projects include reconstruction of 7th Avenue in Colville and the Whitworth Water District #2 Zone 9 Reservoir.

Welch Comer’s new 1,300 square foot office will be led by Maiani, a principal engineer who has been with the firm for 21 years. Taylor Tompke, an employee since 2015, will serve as the office’s project engineer and assistant office manager.

Two employees with Washington roots have transferred to the new office. Engineer-in-Training Lyddie Austin was raised in Spokane Valley and Licensed Surveyor Mike Hathaway is a lifelong Washington resident.

“One of our company’s core values and a key to our success is hiring people who are committed to serving their communities,” Maiani said. “This new Washington office will allow us to attract more Washington residents to our staff who share our values and are vested in the community.”

Welch Comer is a 100-percent employee-owned company. The firm provides a range of civil engineering services for public clients including cities, counties and special purpose districts. In addition to general engineering support, Welch Comer provides planning, mapping, surveying, design, bidding and construction phase services for water, wastewater, transportation and stormwater projects.

The firm also specializes in development and revitalization of public spaces.

Pullman selects Welch Comer

The City of Pullman recently selected the Welch Comer led team to assist them in transforming their downtown. Continuing the work Welch Comer provided the City during the Downtown Master Plan, our team will conduct public outreach, concept design, final design, and finally, construction management. Our team is excited to be part of such a transformative project.
