Internship Program

University engineering programs are great. You are taught the technical information and problem solving skills you’ll need to be successful in the workforce. However, because the civil engineering field is so broad, schooling can only teach so much. To bridge the gap between academia and industry, Welch Comer utilizes a paid internship program. Our program is designed to immerse students into the industry as well as Welch Comer’s culture.

Each year our program selects students to work in our Coeur d’Alene or Spokane Valley offices. We provide an environment where students take life and classroom experience and apply it to the practice of civil engineering in a professional setting.

Internship FAQ

1. What education is required to be a Welch Comer intern?

Selected interns typically have at least one year of undergraduate experience in a civil engineering program.

2. What will you do?

By design, Welch Comer interns are exposed to a variety of tasks and projects. Our intent is to provide you diverse experiences that will help you understand what you enjoy most about the industry.

3. Who will be your mentor?

Each intern will have a Professional Engineer serve as a mentor. Mentors will help you with personal and professional growth, provide guidance through technical challenges, and expose you to other professionals and disciplines.

4. Where will you work?

Typically, your work will be in-office, either in our Coeur d’Alene or Spokane Valley location. On occasion, we’ll expose you to certain types of field work essential to an engineer’s development.
