PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Environmental Protection Agency, through the Safe Drinking Water Act - Surface Water Treatment Rule, required Pend Oreille Public Utility District No. 1 to treat surface water, serving drinking water the Town of Metaline Falls.  Welch Comer Engineers first assisted the Utility District by preparing a Preliminary Engineering Report and an Environmental Assessment to assist the District in selection of a treatment option and site.

Once the District and Environmental Protection Agency accepted the engineering analysis prepared by Welch Comer Engineers, design plans and specifications were prepared for construction of a treatment plant, reservoir and waterline improvements with total construction costs totaling $1,266,840.

  • Designed Rapid Sand Filter to Treat 410 gpm of Raw Water for the North fork of Sullivan Creek.
  • Designed a Backwash and Filter to Waste Recycling System to Optimize Filter Plant Efficiency. 
  • Provided Survey Services for Property Acquisition.
  • Provided Permitting Services to gain the necessary permits from the Washington Department of Transportation and Department of Health.
