A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan was completed by Welch Comer as part of the Welcome Center Project.
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) are required by the EPA as part of the Clean Water Act. All construction projects that disturb an area greater then one acre and can potentially discharge stormwater are required to prepare a SWPPP.
A combination of stormwater and erosion control methods were implemented at the Heyburn Welcome Center construction site. Many of these methods are temporary and designed to prevent sediment from leaving the construction site during construction. Permanent stormwater control was also provided by means of a stormwater collection system, designed to direct runoff from all paved areas to grassy stormwater treatment swales. The swales allow sediment and debris to be removed from stormwater and discharges at a slower rate in a controlled location.
Significant harm to our lakes and streams can result from construction site stormwater runoff. Preparation of a SWPPP insures that a plan is in place to prevent erosion and the transport of sediments that are often caused by construction activities.
